Do you need to measure the network parameters of an electrical network?  Than the type of analyzer you want to use is a network analyzer.  These units are commonly used to measure s-parameter because reflection and transmission of electrical networks are simple to measure at high frequencies.  The network analyzer has sets that also measures y-parameters, z-parameters, and h-parameters.   Network analyzers can be used to measure two port network or networks with an extensive amount of ports.

Network analyzers can measure a range of frequencies.  These frequencies can range from 9 kHz to 110 GHz.  There are also additional options you can add that can change the frequency range you can measure.

A network analyzer is basically made up of a signal generator, a test set and one or more receivers.  Each of these work together to make the network analyzer.  The signal generator creates the test signal, the test set routes the signal to the device being tested, and the receiver makes the measurement.

There are a variety of network analyzers out there including the scalar network analyzer, the vector network analyzer and a new category of network analyzer is the microwave transition analyzer.  Some of the top manufacturers of these units include: Agilent, Rohde & Schwarz and Anritsu.

So if your job requires you to measure the parameters of a network, the network analyzers if the tool for you.
